There are many different helpful skills that I have gained from this course, from writing an entire advocacy project to how to curate the best Twitter posts! Yet the two I want to highlight is learning how to effectively choose the right articles when answering a research question and how to use digital technology to express myself. You might ask, how did I get to my freshman year not "knowing" how to pick articles for research? Well, I did. However, through peer reviews, I was able to have a better grasp on what sources are better to use when answering questions. You want to have ones that don't just have broad statements that you can get off the internet, but looking for research that both reaffirms your initial research and challenges it. By finding these types of resources, you become more well-rounded in the information you use and better able to write a thorough paper. Building off this, learning how to Wix is an important tool I will continue to use for the rest of my life. I think building websites can be a little intimidating at first, however, through this course, I have familiarized myself more with different and creative ways to express myself. I have enjoyed making more fluid and engaging pages that present my work more engagingly. From a journalist's perspective, it has made me more confident in my ability to emphasize the different points in my writing, either through including images or bolding the most important ideas.
Some difficulties YOU faced in the class were both making the time to complete all the assignments and creating a protagonist within my projects. Every week there were around three deadlines to meet and I found it hard to always meet these deadlines without being stressed because I had to manage other coursework. However, I found that it wasn't so much a time management skill that I needed to work on but it was being able to effectively focus on one task at a time. This class taught me the importance of falling through one assignment at a time rather than trying to do it all at once. In regards to my writing, I am still struggling with learning how to make a non-person a protagonist in an article, but I think I have a better grasp from when the element was introduced at the beginning of the quarter, To improve this, I have already enrolled in a different writing course to enhance my writing skills. Not only that but I will be using my peer's work as a reference point and learn from their work.
